‘Schools in the World’ is an international programme that promotes an avantgarde pedagogic training with the aim of contributing to the physical and psychic wellbeing of the project’s beneficiaries and in that way, achieving what Giovenale hoped for: “a healthy mind in a healthy body”.

Context
Brazil has approx. 206 million inhabitants, of which 7.4% of the population live under the national threshold of poverty and another 6%, approx. 11 million people live in favelas. Life in the streets for these children is often marked by violence, substance abuse and sexual abuse. The present intervention takes place in the biggest favelas of the city of Macaé, located just outside of Rio de Janeiro.
The socio-cultural context is severely degraded, with countless street children, unaccompanied minors, of which the majority are illiterate and without professional qualification. In this situation of poverty the only way out is criminality, which provides easy money.
Objectives
Offer an alternative to the world of drug dealing, and thus a safe place for children, offering them a solid support of individual education.
Organize recreational and sports activities that improve the beneficiaries’ soft skills such as discipline, self-esteem, flexibility, etc.
Offer all beneficiaries at the POSCRIS center a complete meal a day.
Increase the effectiveness of the educational intervention by the local staff by updating and improving their practical and pedagogical knowledge.
