‘Schools in the World’ is an international programme that promotes avantgarde educational interventions and pedagogical training with the aim of contributing to the physical and psychic and emotional wellbeing of the project’s beneficiaries.

Context
Kenya is ranked 142nd on the Human Development Index (UNDP 2019), which monitors access to education, income and life expectancy. The outskirts of Nairobi are in a particularly difficult situation due to the lack of hygiene, the absence of health care services, the extreme lack of proper housing conditions and the presence of the alarming rate of criminality and drug addiction, especially amongst the youngest part of the population. In the shantytown of Kibera and Dagoretti a large amount of young people abandon school and fall into the loop of criminality, prostitution and child exploitation.
General objective
Guarantee high quality education to children living in conditions of extreme vulnerability in Nairobi, Kenya.
Specific objective
Increase the access, quality and availability of education in the slums of Dagoretti and Kibera with the aim of counteracting school dropout and improve the psychophysical conditions of children from 2-10 years.
Activity
Educational component:
Realization of didactic laboratories with students as a support for learning;
Distribution of 368 educational kits;
Supply of books to libraries of the Stephen
Preparatory, Harvard Preparatory and St. Michael Nursery schools;
Supply of sports equipment (balls, bags, volleyball nets etc…) for each of the schools involved;
Health component:
Basic healthcare focused on prevention and cure through at least one annual medical visit for all of the 368 beneficiaries;
Purchase and supply of basic medication;
Nutritional component:
Monitoring children at risk of malnutrition;
Provision of 1 complete meal a day to each child in the age range of 2-5 years from the St. Stephen Preparatory, Harvard Preparatory and St. Michael Nursery schools.
Training component:
Training seminar for 46 teachers and educational professionals;
Integration of new teaching methods in the annual training programme
Infrastructure component:
Supply of 150 study stations (desk + chair) for each of the schools involved

Improvement of the local schools’ educational offer in the Dagoretti and Kibera slums, through pedagogical training of the teachers and educational professionals and the supply of educational equipment

Increase of students’ school attendance and performance in the shantytowns of Dagoretti and Kibera through new learning methods and access to primary care services for the most vulnerable students.
